The Great British Betrayal

Dramatist James Graham’s Docu-Drama of Brexit: The Uncivil War left me colder than the Brexit result on that bright sunny morning in 2016 itself. On that day, the kitchen fitters were songbirds in a sparse kitchen; buoyant in temperament - and as I lay on the study floor contemplating what Brexit means, I was interrupted by a cabinet-maker gleefully asking me for a hot beverage. “Sorry to disturb you Guv, any chance of a brew?”

During the tea break, we had a ten minute tête-à-tête and it was only then that I realised he wasn’t remotely interested in the aftermath of the political earthquake he voted to cause. His nonchalant attitude shocked me, albeit, I didn’t let it show. Corrupt and corrupted; but I knew the seeds were sown – winning is all that mattered to him, especially taking back control, and of course, showing the so-called ‘what do they know’ elites they’re not significant. Graham took me back, to when it all began.

The portrayal of ‘eccentric anarchist,’ Dominic Cummings embraced my own perplexity during the referendum; for I was trying to string together a credible line of coherence that seemed to hit a cord; alas, in truth it all went down the proverbial plughole. What do I know? Looking back, I was too negative from the off, in regards to the prospects of our relationship with the EU moving forwards. Build up the romance between the UK and the continent in picturing prosperity beyond bureaucratic paper trails. Grievously, the bigger picture was no Brexiter cared about the repercussion; I was informed numerously – ‘it’ll sort itself out.’ In truth, I feared of a no plan A, B or C, and this dissatisfies me further.

Ultimately, there’s only one culprit; Theresa May. In normal times the public was usually in the dark when it came to the Opposition’s plans for the nation’s future, until a manifesto is published. In 2015, this was the normal procedure. Post EUREF2016 it is all change. Brexit malfunctioning encourages social commentators to onion peel policies from the Opposition only for the snake oil incumbency to not understand the Brexit plans of the knowledge they’re the only ones doing the negotiating - Cumberbatch to cabbage-patch.

Exception times, indeed – however, not to the point whereby a Royal Veto will be used if parliament takes back control. For these newly groomed revolutionaries are dreaming up theories on par to the Bill of Rights of 1688 when the Crown ‘semi-offloaded’ democracy to parliament. In reality these revolutionaries can never see the full picture as it is not quite so appealing as perceived ‘legall’ (old English term) loopholes written 331 years ago; allowed and acceptable during this Brexit epoch of absolute uncertainty. What I can be certain of is they’re reading Tolstoy’s ‘War and Peace’ thinking it is ‘Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years.’

Graham’s The Uncivil War captured a sense of ‘what have we done’ nuance. Outside the jubilant noise of exuberance of patriotic nostalgia all fanciful and hopeful, the realisation of a nation left in turmoil where we stand globally was clear to see. Phase Three and still our representative lawmakers are conducting an uncivil war; a bellicose Brexiteer from an alt right wing Think Tank delightedly exclaimed the government’s impasse was guerrilla warfare, he’s gleefully sending off tweets paid for by Lord Bamford’s donations from a warm office in the capital; oh so far removed from the cold reality of what no deal means to the working nation at large.

Unjust hatred towards the European Project has endorsed journalist careers that feed off the ill-feeling and then disengage from what they’ve created like a sly fox. Statements of EU bullies for simply having a plan with twenty seven nations is provocative absurdity and mass media outlets have poked the propagandist fire, so the dissent spits and crackles all for the wide eyed gullible voyeur to absorb and take note. Used as fact, they spit and crackle the content in public houses and on social media---- and herewith the issue; a fundamental flaw under EU Law which Leavers are so keen to ignore – ‘Distribution of Competences.’

The Lisbon Treaty (TFEU) elucidates the divisions of a functioning EU and member’s states - alongside the principles of subsidiarity proportionality, ultimately definitive motions of European Law, which are an integral cog of the project. In real terms the EU can only act within the remit / limit of the competences, by which have been conferred upon by EU Treaties. Especially Articles 2-6 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU.

Lessons to be learnt by the Brexiteers are prevalent in the without prejudice doctrine affiliated to the principles of the Union itself, coming under shared economic interests not imposing the opposite on an opulent nation. The concept of promoting social and territorial cohesion collaborating with national will and Treaty application (s); making sure the operative is enabling a functional economic condition so all missions are succinct. This neatly leads me onto the prospects of March 30th 2019. And what the so-called plan entails. At no point I can be confident any of the above represents Brexit from the UK’s perspective.

Securing our future prospects overrides the filibuster surrounding no deal; gladly tabled amendments scheduled on 29/01/19 will endorse a positive route out of the worst case scenario. Diluting the contingent of far right extremism present in the ERG and back-benchers who’re currently lobbying EU27 member states to block ART50 extension - Yet more illegalities for the Electorate Commission to preside upon as the Polish collusion affects the political process of our sovereign nation’s status. Indeed, I feel I am repeating myself and I despise tautology – alas I am forced to by incompetence across the spectrum, something Graham connected to in his Brexit drama, ‘if you say it enough times, they start to believe you.’

Jean-Francois Lyotard in his philosophical book: ‘The Inhumane’ expressed this in his chapter: ‘God and the puppet.’ The extinction of the subject does not come about within its reflexive temporality, similar to an interval it derives from over exposure and repetition. Germany in the early 1930s perfected tautologies, if you say it enough times people start believing it and Vote for it. In truth, May stipulates startling synergies with fascist state indoctrination methods and I’ll expand: May claims incessantly her deal means the UK will leave the EU on 29/03/19 – alas, her Deal, i.e. (W T Draft) makes a mockery of this statement.

I’m referencing our Member States's status quo and the enshrined competent Free State philosophy weaved into the fabric of our constitution in the modern era. The dispute resides herewith under Article (6) WT Draft; our nation will be in the EU without representation, zero MEPs, a Commissioner, or European Court Judges to act on a sovereign states behalf. This goes against the Free State philosophy, on grounds the UK are excluded from attending summits. Yes, the total opposite to what people thought by Voting for Brexit. Before long, James Graham could be asked to write a sequel Brexit Docu-Drama called 'The Great British Betrayal.’
