‘Hire more coppers to crack down on knife crime? Sorry, no Khan do. Begin plugging the massive hole in TfL’s budget? Sorry, no Khan do. Hire more back office staff at City Hall? YES WE KHAN! Wrong choices. Wrong Mayor.’  – (Shaun Bailey, Tory London Mayor Candidate.)

Message reply by a BackBailey2020 supporter: ‘It’ll be interesting to see the ethic make up of all the new staff.’

Now, if I was in Bailey’s shoes I wouldn’t want racism to prop up on my Press Releases, even if it was written as a comment. However, it’s obvious Shaun Bailey isn’t repentant of his past racist comments; otherwise Bailey would’ve vehemently refuted this racially bigoted reply: ‘It’ll be interesting to see the ethic make up of all the new staff.’ Unbelievably, it was only five days ago that Eastern Eye filmed Bailey’s apology for his misogyny and racism. What spoilt the hapless apology was the incessant ‘but’ that implied his apology wasn’t genuine. And yet he’s been doing his utmost to appeal to multi-cultural London by posing with all sections of the community via staged photo-shoots and overly polite social media posts, this wouldn’t be so if he wasn’t campaigning to being the next London Mayor in 2020. A decade ago this would’ve been innocently acceptable, alas, unfortunately the opaque bio-directional truth now dominates public life aspirations. So now the plan is to divide the campaign content up with ‘Shaun Bailey Press’ which is where the ‘Hire more coppers… Sorry, no Khan do’ post derived from.

Exactly, how do we solve a problem like the knife-crime epidemic which is spreading from London to other parts of the UK? Answers on a social media post because it affects all of us, this was Bailey’s answer for resolving gang warfare written in the Telegraph for a predominantly Far-Right agenda recently. ‘Yes, the government can help, but there’s no knight in shining armour’ isn’t what Londoners want to read from a London Mayor Candidate who claims to have the answers, for example putting a paltry 1k law enforcers on our streets, knowing full well 21k have been removed of duty since 2011. At first I thought, at last Bailey is going to be honest for once…. Alas, bottled it of the premise he knows full well our incumbency has prioritized austerity and tied City Hall up in fiscal knots. Regretfully Bailey is dancing on a pin-head of non-compliant ideologies, and still wants Londoners to vote for him to build the dream, his dream, because he grew up poor. He’s already stated and it’s an idiom orientated Get-Out-Clause: ‘he’s no knight in shining armour.’  Sorry, no can do; after all the fantasy discourse over the last few years, Londoners aren’t asking for a fairy-tale knight, they’d just settle for an equine so they can gallop from the mayhem. Or easier still, just don’t vote Tory.

Stating the obvious about criminality isn’t enough to rally support, unfortunately it underlines the frail position of Tory policy, and writing a Telegraph article doesn’t cut it, for Bailey’s politically restricted position is fatally flawed beyond repair. Regardless of the 16% surge in knife-criminality this year alone, London is not an implied war-zone. So the bellicose terms to which Bailey abide to, for example… ‘Communities must *defeat* the criminals’ fear with honour. We are the majority not the criminals;’ energises gang comradeship, emboldens spirit to avenge stabbings in their brother’s memory. For them, their survival structures depend on a close-knit link to their tribe. Call it tribal warfare and not understanding it leaves me cold especially from a Founder of the now dissolved charity ‘My Generation’… because Bailey then resorts to ‘resolving’ the issue by referring to his Mother moving heaven and earth for his own safety. Such pious rhetoric has no grounding for those parent-less. Yet another improper idiom which is totally irrelevant in showing young lads there’s a life beyond gangs. In tribal terms, gangs are family to its members; the escapism occurs due to family breakdowns, due to unprecedented social pressures from Central Government - cajoled to inflame this heinous, societal dis-figuration. Why hasn’t Bailey consulted with Sheldon Thomas? The article was screaming for an expert’s quote on black-on-black related crime.

As expected the racism label jibe arrived here: ‘but can we even talk about stopping knife-crime without acknowledging the elephant in the room?’ Why is it that young black boys are the ones dying?’ The demographic end up in absolute poverty, decrepit inner communities; whereby, young black boys are forced into drug-land brokering and peer-pressure regimes to get themselves out of the social decline entrapment. By saying they need a vocation flounces their despicable situation and in their eyes a route out of deprivation.  What has happened to Sheldon Thomas’s ‘Ending Gang Violence Strategy’ (2011)?   Key schemes to tackle gang violence was scrapped in 2016, the Home Office was publicly warned about ‘putting a price on the lives of our young people.’ May ignored the plea just as she’s ignored the warnings of experts and her fellow MPs since. Oh, it gets worse, and it’s the neglect of national regions for three years. The EGYVA (Ending Gang and Youth Violence Areas) is obsolete, indeed, 2015 was the cut-off point. Prior to then, regions were annexed if a knife-crime had been committed on the youth. New Scotland Yard / HO and Gang Experts such as Thomas sat on a round table, discussed and strategized; again this isn’t now part of the HO or the MoJ pathway et al and MET Chieftain, Cressida Dicks proclaimed a dire warning: nothing is working, against the current administration; it was not addressed to the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. Nowadays, the authoritative concentration is purely on cyber-world’s child exploitation, a far cry from the hands on ‘community trenches’ and the die-hard, battle-bus-dribble which Bailey writes of.

Someone should tell Bailey that Cameron’s big society perished in a public firestorm of NA inquiries. Apparently, the charitable sector came under behemoth criticism after BSN Chief Executive Twivy pledged all charities would be independently funded and be the running voice of the citizen, yet a partner to the government. The big society was a cash incentive for charity endeavours by being a Special Adviser in Youth and Crime Bailey brokered the ‘Get In Project;’ it didn’t materialise, although 299k never got refunded, repaid. Naturally, the funding was lost in the quagmire of administrative costs, why the National Audit Office published the condemnation at the time. However, going by this article Bailey still believes in charitable means i.e. community is the way forward.   Although, if you delve into the communities collective justice system devised to protect the community another reality dawns – I am referring to the poor families who need / seek justice via Legal Aid. Austerity has wiped off 31% of the Legal Aid budget; including another 9% by 2020; this dissolves community spirit and disengages practically all means to stand up to the gangland culture developing in inner cities. Why it can’t be the community in the ‘trenches’ – Bailey carelessly has overlooked one blatant factor, no Legal Aid, no justice. Without Legal Aid and a coherent justice system to back the collective community rights, Bailey’s London Mayor Campaign is based on outlandish foibles and every Londoner deserves to know the truth.

Campaign negativity is never far away either, for the nasty party, what’s most disappointing is Mr. Khan’s response to the rampant criminality on London streets, for he has a total lack of insistence. Bailey believes the London Mayor should holler around and be heard, be visible in a bid to take back control - and this doesn’t need money from Central Government. If only the Mayor of London became a screaming banshee the gangs will slide out from the dark alleyways and underpasses and cower into a formulaic fatherly submission, under the wizardry spell of the Mayor’s robe - he’ll then sit them on his knee and ask them… have you been a good boy this year?  Or maybe stick your head in the hornet’s nest with belligerent threats of laying down the law; by barking out ‘be a big honourable man, the Saviour is watching’ will stop the stabbings. The odds of resolving the knife-crime endemic via such idiocies is zero, inadvertently, it’ll be exorbitant for the crisis hit NHS, and once safe communities will be baying for blood.
